Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Our nation and our state are facing some of the most serious challenges and opportunities in modern history….and the time for partisanship is over. I began talking about a different way of doing politics during my campaign in 2006. It begins by believing that what we have in common is greater than our differences. Protecting our children, ensuring affordable healthcare, reducing our individual property tax burden and ensuring that the children of Texas get a quality public education aren’t issues that belong to Republicans or Democrats. Regardless of party affiliation, these are issues that we all care about.

We are ready for politicians to set aside egos and personal agendas, be honest about the problems we're facing, and work together for the people that elected us. I've worked to honor the priorities of my constituent's who voted for me as well as earn the trust of those who did not.

I’m proud of the work I’ve done since being elected. Throughout my first session I represented District 47 by fighting for legislation that:
• Supports our teachers and fosters strong public schools
• Increases funding for retired educators
• Protects our children and seniors
• Decreases property taxes
• Protects the rights of property owners
• Increases government accountability
• Ensures public safety
• Protects our environment and improves our air quality

There is still much work that remains to be done for District 47 and Texas. And the complexities of the 21st century demand a fresh approach to politics. I’ve built a broad coalition that stands ready to work with me to tackle the difficult issues and find solutions that work for all of us. It’s time to put our House in order and support a fair and balanced process that allows us to move forward.
